Revenue grew 733%, training time was cut in half, and learner satisfaction improved across the board.
A national training program that couldn’t keep up with the fastest-growing sport in the country
Canada Soccer trains coaches at every level — from local recreational clubs to competitive associations — on the hard and soft skills they need to develop players safely and effectively. But the program was built entirely around in-person workshops delivered on the pitch, and as the sport grew, that model couldn’t scale. Scheduling, travel costs, and tracking completions nationwide became unmanageable — and the pandemic made in-person delivery impossible.
The organization needed to redesign its coach education from the ground up without losing what made it work: hands-on practice, community connection, and mentorship from experienced coaches.
A blended learning experience designed for coaches, by coaches

Four coaching streams, one consistent structure
The Grassroots Coach Education Program was built around four streams — Active Start, FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, and Soccer for Life — each following a clear, consistent structure. Every stream begins with a shared foundational course, followed by age- and stage-specific training, and concludes with a hands-on, locally delivered workshop.

Workshop content reimagined for the screen
Working closely with Canada Soccer’s subject matter experts, the instructional design team transformed the original workshop material into clear, bite-sized eLearning modules with consistent, templated layouts. All training was developed in both English and French, ensuring nationwide accessibility.

Self-serve registration, instant access
Members register and purchase training through an online store, with learning accounts created instantly and learning paths available immediately. Completion tracking at every level — from individual coaches to clubs, provinces, and territories — gives Canada Soccer full visibility into progress nationwide.
The Neovation team put the eLearning courses into readable, bite-sized pieces where we didn’t lose the content or the intent. The result was a consistent look across courses. What they came up with was just outstanding.
